Are these Spurs and Chelsea stars some of Belgium’s key men for Euro 2016?
Toby Alderweireld
Toby Alderweireld has enjoyed nothing short of a fantastic season in 2015/16, earning himself a place in the Premier League team of the year as he helped Tottenham Hotspur mount a serious title challenge – the first in living memory for many of their supporters.
The 27-year-old constructed an incredibly formidable defensive partnership with Jan Vertonghen, who will more than likely start alongside him in the back four in France . This will come as great news to Belgian fans hoping to see solidity personified from their troops.
Looking at , Alderweireld is most definitely one of the best centre-backs heading to the Euro’s this summer. His average of 7.5 clearances per game is just one aspect that will be vital to Belgium’s progress and success in the tournament, with the former Atlético and Southampton man even adding a potential goal-scoring threat to the line-up, having notched four times last term.
In addition, he very rarely fouled his opponents in the top flight – let alone picking up bookings (only three in 38 games) – and this could be an important factor when you consider the debilitating nature of suspensions in a tournament.
How far do you think Belgium can go in the Euro’s, and who will be their key performers? Let us know in the comments section below.
