Are Liverpool preparing for life after Milner by targeting Doucoure?

, Liverpool are interested in Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The star has impressed for the Hornets since arriving at the club in the summer of 2016.

Last season, he caught the eye with a number of dominant performances in the centre of the park.

He was ultimately voted the club’s Player of the Season for his contributions.

Apparently Watford rate Doucoure, who is also allegedly being chased by Paris Saint-Germain, between £30 million and £40 million based on what he was done in the Premier League so far.

It’s certainly interesting that Liverpool are supposedly keen, given how many options Jurgen Klopp currently has in midfield. But perhaps the German is preparing for life after one of his key players.

Curiously, Doucoure appeared very open to a move to Anfield when speaking to Canal+ earlier this year.

He said, : “Liverpool is a club that needs no introduction. It would be my dream to play in a club like this.”

James Milner doesn’t have years left

He may not show many signs of ageing, but James Milner doesn’t have too long left at the top level.

The Englishman has an incredible engine, but it’s only a matter of time before his decline begins.

Milner has been exceptional under Klopp and totally embodies the manager’s style.

Doucoure is a box-to-box midfielder who also has a fantastic engine.

The powerhouse Frenchman, who at the age of 25 is yet to reach his peak, would be a great replacement for Milner, who will be 33 in January.
