Are any of these European coaches capable of replacing Arsene Wenger at Arsenal?
1 – Diego Simeone
The Argentine manager has been a revelation in La Liga with Atlético Madrid. It was understood that he was on Chelsea’s list to eventually replace the departed José Mourinho, however that now appears to have diminished due to speculation of Antonio Conte taking the hot-seat at Stamford Bridge this Summer.
The former tough-tackling Inter Milan defensive midfielder has an uncompromising style which has drawn comparisons to Chelsea’s former Portuguese coach. One thing Simeone has shown is his attention to detail and his man-motivating capabilities. You don’t win a La Liga title against the biggest two clubs in Europe and make a Champions League final if you do not have the capability or ambitious drive acquired to do so, and all of this achieved on a budget.
He is of a very different style to Arsene Wenger which would not necessarily be the worst thing. He has won plaudits from many La Liga pundits for his tactical knowledge, and is clearly someone that has a desire to achieve everything in the game.
Statistically speaking, Simeone has managed Atletico for 245 games and has a win percentage of 63%
The most negative thing you could say about Simeone is that he is yet to manage or even play in English football. The flip side of that is that he has shown he has the fight and intellect to take on both Barcelona and Real Madrid and come out on top.
