Archie Gray was doing something notable in Tottenham team training in South Korea

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Archie Gray has certainly hit the ground running since he joined the club from Leeds United earlier this month.

18-year-old Gray made 52 appearances for Leeds last term, proving that he does have the necessary experience to succeed at Spurs immediately.

Gray will obviously need a period of adaptation – he’s making a big step up, but Ange Postecoglou seems immensely impressed with the youngster.

Postecoglou has started Gray in all three of the Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies thus far.

And whilst that might be considered a shock in itself, it’s been even more surprising that all of Gray’s initial minutes have come as a centre-back.

Gray didn’t play as a central defender for Leeds at all last season, even if the midfielder was often used as a right-back.

But it seems as if Postecoglou is attempting to hone Gray’s defensive attributes as much as he can, better preparing him for the season ahead.

And what stood out most significantly was Gray’s position, who spent the entire session in midfield.

Whether it was the match or the subsequent drills, the 18-year-old spent no time playing as a defender, suggesting that Postecoglou may be finished with his centre-back experiment for now.

Interestingly, fellow youngster Jamie Doney remained in his left-back role, and Gold pointed out that Mile Jedinak was giving him plenty of coaching tips on the sideline during the 11 vs 11 game.

Gray has been wowed by one Tottenham player in training recently, a level of football he’s clearly really enjoying being exposed to.

And perhaps in Wednesday’s friendly against a K-League XI, Tottenham fans may be treated to a midfield duo of Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

And to that end, Spanish sources have been reacting to Bergvall’s start at Tottenham after the youngster rejected a move to Barcelona in order to head to north London.
