Anwar El Ghazi reacts to Emi Martinez’s display in Aston Villa win
Anwar El Ghazi that Emi Martinez was outstanding in Aston Villa’s win over Wolves this weekend, insisting that the squad were all proud of the goalkeeper.
Dean Smith’s side got back to winning ways in dramatic fashion on Saturday. El Ghazi scored a stoppage-time penalty to settle the game.
But it was largely down to Martinez that El Ghazi’s spot-kick was for the three points. The Argentinian produced a number of remarkable saves to keep the home side at bay at Molineux.
The standout stop surely came when he denied Leander Dendoncker during the second-half. And it was little surprise to see the 28-year-old named the man of the match as the full-time whistle loomed.
And following the game, El Ghazi shared just how impressed he has been with the summer signing.
“He was unbelievable,�. “Even in training, it’s so hard to score against him. And he showed his quality today. We are very proud of him.�/p>
TBR View: Martinez deal a masterstroke
There is no question that it was a stroke of genius to sign Martinez in the summer. It is remarkable to think that he cost just £17 million ().
He saved a penalty on his debut and kept a clean sheet. And he has been incredibly consistent ever since. He has now kept five clean sheets in 10 appearances for the Villans.
And having only recently become the number one in the Premier League, there is arguably little reason why Martinez cannot get even better still.
