Antonio Rudiger says Arsenal have a ‘silent leader’ he’d love to sign for Real Madrid

Arsenal have improved leaps and bounds under Mikel Arteta over the last couple of seasons and are expected to challenge for major honours in the coming years.

The Gunners have won just one FA Cup under the Spaniard, but he has transformed their squad and made them a force to be reckoned with domestically and Europe.

The current Arsenal squad is the perfect blend of youth and experience and if they carry on in the same vein, special things could be around the corner.

And Antonio Rudiger believes two Arsenal players, in particular, have played pivotal roles in transforming the club under Arteta.

Rudiger feels William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes – along with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk – are the three best central defenders in the world currently.

The Real Madrid man spoke glowingly about the Arsenal pair and went on to suggest that they complement each other perfectly.

“You see Arsenal, the two centre-backs who play together have been doing an amazing job for two years now,” said Rudiger on The Inside Scoop podcast.

“The transformation between the current Arsenal and the one before – those two are the pillars of it.

“Gabriel is more of an aggressive leader and Saliba – this brother plays clean! You have to give it to him and he looks like a silent leader, you know?

And finally, when asked to name one centre-back he could sign for Real Madrid, Rudiger simply quipped ‘William Saliba’ with a wry smile on his.

Widely hailed as the best centre-back partnership in world football currently, Saliba and Gabriel are absolutely indispensable for Arteta.

Arsenal have other quality players in that position like Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori, but the pair are currently playing on the flanks as their central defensive partnership is set in stone.

Both players have begun the 2024-25 campaign in fine form – with Gabriel also scoring important goals against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City – and will look to carry on in the same vein in the weeks ahead.
