Antonio Conte is ‘happy’ with £12m Tottenham player, but the club are now looking for replacements – Romano

Fabrizio Romano has offered an insight into how Antonio Conte sees the situation of Hugo Lloris at Tottenham.

It has been reported that Spurs are looking to upgrade on the French goalkeeper at the end of the current season.

Lloris is the current skipper of the World Cup holders and has been named in the squad heading to Qatar to defend that crown.

Romano told that Conte is happy with Lloris but the club are looking for long-term replacements for the future.

Romano on Conte and Lloris

He said: “I’m aware there’s been some speculation about the goalkeeper situation at Tottenham, so I thought I’d give my current understanding of the club’s plans.

“There are no advanced talks with any goalkeeper yet, it’s too early to say.

“Conte is happy with Hugo Lloris but obviously on the club’s side they’re monitoring other goalkeepers for the future.

“It’s not something imminent.”

Lloris is a bit of a curious case. He has won the World Cup, giving him a pedigree that Spurs do not really have much of elsewhere and they have not won a club trophy since 2008.

He is a top shot-stopper but he makes big, elementary mistakes and examples have come against Arsenal and Newcastle this season.

He is also 35 so it makes sense that Spurs would have one eye on replacing him, despite the longevity of goalkeepers in their careers.
