Antonio baffled Reguilon wasn’t sent off in Tottenham win vs West Ham
Michail Antonio that he was baffled that Sergio Reguilon was not punished for slapping Aaron Cresswell during Tottenham Hotspur’s win over West Ham on Sunday.
Spurs kept their top-four hopes alive with a 3-1 victory that puts a major dent in the Hammers’ own chances. It proved to be a hugely eventful game in North London.

Son Heung-min scored twice in the win. However, the South Korean did not cover himself in glory at all times, with one particularly disappointing moment in the second-half.
Kurt Zouma kicked the ball at him as Tottenham prepared to take a corner. The ball was barely chipped to the forward and clipped him on the back of the leg.

Son however, decided to channel his inner Rivaldo and went down as if something much more sinister had happened. Despite the embarrassing nature of the dive, Reguilon was clearly infuriated and went over to defend his teammate.
‘How can you tell me this’
What happened next left Antonio astonished, particularly because Reguilon emerged from the incident without any kind of punishment.
: “Reguilon has run over to Kurt angry, and Cress has stepped in front of him and he’s slapped Cress in the face. I’ve gone, alright, there’s got to be a decision made here. I’ve gone to the ref and said someone has been slapped in the face, can you check it?”
“He’s gone, don’t worry blah, blah, blah. But then the fans have run on and he’s like everyone stop talking to me, I need to deal with the fans.
“There was like four or five things he needs to talk about at the time and he goes everything has been checked. I was like it can’t have been!
“So I’ve gone to Cress and grabbed his arm and he was like ‘get off me’ and I was like ‘no show him your face’. He had a red mark down the side of his face, I was like how can you tell me this has been checked? I was in shock, I couldn’t believe it.”
Conte would have been infuriated had Reguilon been sent off for incident Antonio described
Perhaps Reguilon would have got into greater trouble had Cresswell reacted more theatrically. Certainly, it would have angered Antonio Conte had the Spaniard received a red card.
Of course, Conte is an emotional character, just like Reguilon. But defending Son on that occasion was not the right thing to do – and getting a red card there would have been infuriating.
Perhaps Reguilon felt that he could get Zouma into trouble by making more of the incident. And it does need to be said that Zouma did not need to kick the ball at Son either.
Cresswell, on the other hand, does deserve praise. Judging by what Antonio has described, he had every right to make more of what Reguilon did.
