Anton Ferdinand says Manchester United rumour he’s heard will leave fans ‘vexed’
Manchester United are currently the subject of speculation linking them with England manager Gareth Southgate.
According to the , Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made Southgate his top choice to replace Erik ten Hag as Red Devils boss this summer.
The report claims that Ratcliffe and INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford have consulted some of Manchester United’s former greats about who should replace Ten Hag.
Apparently, the current England manager was the ‘overwhelming choice’ to take the reins at Old Trafford.
Unsurprisingly, this rumour has split the Manchester United fanbase. don’t seem to be on board with the idea.

Anton Ferdinand not on board with Gareth Southgate to Manchester United
Anton Ferdinand, speaking on , seems to be on that same wavelength, namely that Southgate wouldn’t be right for Man United.
‘I just think the brand of football… the fans will be vexed,” Ferdinand said, in conversation with Flex and Yungen on the latest episode.
“I hear Gary Neville say it a lot, I hear Rio say it a lot, ‘what is your identity?’. Because you’ve always had an identity. To win, and to be on the front foot when winning.
“That’s not his way of football, as we’ve seen time and time again for England.
“And people will say that’s probably the reason why in his 10 years so far we’ve not won a major trophy, an international trophy, because of that.
“Does that fit well with Manchester United?”
You can’t argue with what Ferdinand has said. Southgate to Manchester United just doesn’t seem a good fit, as he doesn’t really match their playing style and identity.
Obviously if England go on to win Euro 2024 then there might be a better argument for him to join the Red Devils, but even then, his record at club level isn’t particularly great.
