Another Eliaquim Mangala? Kurt Zouma move reeks of Everton panic
It appears we are approaching panic buy season in the Premier League transfer window. With less than 48 hours to go until the summer window shuts, some odd transfers appear more likely than ever. Enter Everton, and their apparent late bid to bring in Kurt Zouma on loan from Chelsea.
he Toffees are confident of signing the Frenchman this week on a season-long loan. It comes as moves for Marcos Rojo of Manchester United and Barcelona’s Yerry Mina struggle to get over the line.
When Zouma arrived at Chelsea in 2014 he immediately looked a star in the making. Soon enough he was a regular and made his senior international debut with France. Then, he suffered a serious knee injury in February 2016.
Since then, things have been tougher for Zouma. Last season he was loaned out to Stoke City. He hardly covered himself in glory as the Potters were relegated from the Premier League.
A move for Zouma bears remarkable similarities to Everton’s panic loan move for Eliaquim Mangala in January.
A left-footed, French defender with a poor injury record whose form has seemingly deserted him. The Manchester City loanee played just a few minutes for Everton before rupturing knee ligaments and disappearing. The Sam Allardyce arrival was an unmitigated disaster.
Zouma appears to be a similar panic buy. Of course, he could arrive and surprise us all. But Everton will hopefully get a deal over the line for Mina, rather than panic loaning once again.
