Angus Kinnear responds to rumours he’s planning to leave Leeds

Angus Kinnear confirmed in his programme notes ahead of Leeds United’s clash with Norwich City on Sunday that rumours that he is planning to leave in the summer are wide of the mark – joking that some may be disappointed about the news.

Leeds have gone through an incredibly turbulent few weeks. Marcelo Bielsa has left after a tenure at Elland Road in which he cemented himself as a club icon.

Jesse Marsch has taken over. But he is yet to take a point, suffering two defeats. The 1-0 loss at Leicester offered some cautious optimism. However, that evaporated in emphatic fashion in midweek as Aston Villa left West Yorkshire with a 3-0 win.

There is a lot of frustration being directed at the club hierarchy. And there seemed to be some speculation on Twitter that Kinnear was planning to resign at the end of the season.

The chief executive has received a lot of credit for the work he has done at Elland Road. But with one era now over, some must have wondered whether he would indeed step aside at the end of the campaign.

However, Kinnear used his programme notes to confirm that he is planning to stay put – .

“I wanted to clarify, internet rumours of my imminent demise have been greatly exaggerated,” he wrote.

“Whilst I appreciate that this won’t be welcomed in all quarters, I am pretty certain that Leeds United wasn’t built by people who gave up at the first moment the going got tough.”

Leeds have plenty to prove at all levels as Kinnear addresses future

With Bielsa gone, Leeds fans have lost a lot of hope. Obviously, their season was not going to plan. And there was certainly a danger that relegation was on the cards had Bielsa stayed.

The loss on Thursday however, saw the atmosphere turn somewhat toxic for the first time this season. And now Leeds have plenty to prove at all levels.

The board can probably do little more at this stage. But an absolutely massive summer lies ahead for the club.

Kinnear has now put to bed the suggestion that he will not be there for it.
