Angus Kinnear gives update on Marcelo Bielsa future at Leeds

Leeds United’s chief executive Angus Kinnear has confirmed that manager Marcelo Bielsa is “very, very close” to agreeing a new deal with them.

With the 65-year-old out of contract this summer at Elland Road, the supporters have been waiting patiently for confirmation that he will still be in charge for the upcoming 2020/21 season.

The Argentine boss has cemented himself in the Leeds history books after guiding the Whites to promotion from the Championship, as they clinched the league title and secured a return to the Premier League.

They begin the new season in September with a trip to Merseyside against defending champions Liverpool, while their first home game comes a week later against another newly-promoted side in Fulham.

Kinnear has explained that he sees there being no issue for Leeds when it comes to rubber stamping Bielsa’s new deal and he is waiting for the “appropriate window” with him to get his future resolved.

“He [Bielsa] is very, very close [to extending his future]. The challenge with Marcelo is trying to find time, he is constantly at the training ground, working with the team, doing his analytics, i just need to find an appropriate window to get the paper in front of him and for him to sign. We don’t foresee any challenges,”
