Ange Postecoglou’s ‘dream’ Tottenham target has rejected a new contract at his current club
Tottenham Hotspur may have received a boost in their pursuit of one of Ange Postecoglou’s ‘dream’ targets in this transfer window.
The North Londoners have had a fantastic summer so far – both on and off the pitch.
Spurs have won every single one of their pre-season games, while Timo Werner and Archie Gray have been brought in. Lucas Bergvall has completed his move to Tottenham as well.
Postecoglou is keen to add more signings in the coming months, and one of his key targets may have just made himself available for a transfer.
Tottenham target Conor Gallaher rejects Chelsea’s contract offer
It is no secret at this point that Tottenham like Conor Gallagher.
The Chelsea midfielder has been a target for Spurs for over a year now. He is a player they really admire, and the Blues are open to selling him too.
Reports have claimed that Gallagher is Postecoglou’s ‘dream’ midfield target this summer, and everyone expects Tottenham to make an offer to sign him.
Now, the North Londoners have received a boost.
Ben Jacobs has revealed that Gallagher has rejected Chelsea’s latest contract proposal. The Blues offered to make him one of the club’s highest-earning midfielders with a brand new two-year contract with an option to extend that by another 12 months.
However, the midfielder has refused to put pen to paper, and Atletico Madrid have now found an agreement to sign Gallagher.
The England star’s stance on a move to Spain, however, is unclear at this moment in time.
Jacobs tweeted: “Understand Conor Gallagher turned down a new three-year (2+1) contract extension at Chelsea today as well as in early June. Wages offered comparable to the highest earners in Chelsea’s midfield.
“As reported, Chelsea have agreed a package with Atletico Madrid in excess of €40m including add-ons and will support a move to Spain if that’s Gallagher’s preference. No terms agreed yet. Aston Villa also had a club-record bid accepted for Gallagher in June but he decided to stay.
“Chelsea would prefer to sell Gallagher abroad than to a Premier League rival and the Atletico offer accepted is well below the one made by Villa. Both Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are now waiting for feedback from Gallagher.”
What Chelsea are expecting Tottenham to do in Gallagher race
Chelsea have found themselves in a tricky position now.
The Blues have offered Gallagher a new deal, but the fact that he has rejected that proposal means Enzo Maresca’s side are at risk of losing him for nothing in 2025.
However, Chelsea seem to be confident of selling Gallagher.
Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol revealed that ‘Chelsea are expecting Spurs to come in’ for Gallagher ‘in the next couple of days or the next few weeks’,
It remains to be seen if the Blues will be open to selling Gallagher to Tottenham, who are only willing to pay a maximum of £40 million to sign him.
