Ange Postecoglou uses ‘outstanding’ Tottenham player in completely new position in behind-closed-doors friendly 

Tottenham Hotspur were back in action in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Saturday as Ange Postecoglou ramps up preparations for the new season. 

Spurs reportedly picked up an emphatic 7-2 win over Cambridge United, with Ange Postecoglou’s side leading 5-0 at the halfway point. 

The Aussie boss got an early opportunity to take a closer look at new arrivals Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

Gray has reportedly impressed in training already while Bergvall also got his first run out since his switch from Djurgarden back in February, after linking up with h๊is new teammaꦏtes earlier this month. 

And according to , Postecoglou took the opportunity to experiment with some of his players, leading to a midfielder playing at left-back agains✤t Cambridge.

Postecoglou uses Tottenham player in new position vs Cambridge

Spurs are currently short of options💛 in defence, with a host of their key stars involved in international tournaments.

Cristian Romero is bidding to win back-to-back Copa America title as Argentina face Colombia in the early hours of tomorro🐟w 𝓰morning. 

As for Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin, the duo are yet to return to training following their involvement in Euro 2024, with the f🦩or🔜mer crashing out to England in the semi-final.

While Destiny Udogie has returned to training, Postecoglou decided to play Jamie Donley at left-back on S༺aturday꧋, Football.London reports. 

It’s noted that the Spurs youngster done a ‘fine job’ in♛ a totally new r൩ole after playing most of his football as an advanced midfielder throughout his short career so far.

Jamie Donley could head out on loan this summer

While Postecoglou hasn’t shied away from h𒆙anding youngsters an opportunity during his Spurs tenure, a loan move for Donley would make plenty of sense this summer. 

The 19-year-old made his debut last term asꦰ he came off the bench in a 3-3 draw at Manchester City back in December. Donley went on to rack up another three appearances throughout the season, with all coming as a late substitute. 

The ‘’ midfielder would undoubtedly benefit fr🙈om regular first-team minutes and after the arrivals of Gray and Bergvall, that feels unlikely next season. 

With that๊ being said, it will be intriguing to see how he performs duriꦿng pre-season, particularly in his new role at left-back.
