Ange Postecoglou suggests £140k-a-week Spurs star still has much to learn

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has spoken about his intention to get more goals out of the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson.

The Spurs boss was speaking to ahead of the Premier League meeting with Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Kulusevski and Johnson have been featuring fairly regularly this season, mostly on the flanks behind the centre-forward.

The Sweden international has a decent enough goal return at present this season. He has four goals, plus one assist, from 15 Premier League outings.

Meanwhile, Johnson’s season has been disrupted by a hamstring injury, so he hasn’t been able to build momentum. He has one goal and two assists from 12 Premier League outings.

Sadly, neither player made much of an impact against West Ham in midweek, though in all fairness, Son Heung-min struggled too.

‘Hell of a lot of work to do’

Alasdair Gold noted how Postecoglou previously mentioned getting more out of the attackers and more goals from Johnson and Kulusevski.

He asked the Spurs boss how he plans to coach that, saying “is it about movement, positioning or confidence, or all of the above?”

Postecoglou replied: “Yeah it’s all of that. Brennan is 22, he’s still learning the game in many respects and it’s a big move for him.

“Kulusevski similar, he needs to develop that side of the game but it’s like anything else, you’ve just got to keep working at it.

“It’s not just them, it’s us as a team. The opportunities just didn’t fall for them last night, it was other players in those areas.

“We lacked some real conviction as we have in previous games, I think from the start of the season I don’t think we’ve rewarded our dominance with goals, even in the games that we’ve won.

“We haven’t really converted the opportunities or created the chances that our play should have so that’s still the area that we’ve got a hell of a lot of work to do.”

Tottenham have two top talents in Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski

Both Johnson and Kulusevski are incredible talents with a lot of potential and a bright future ahead of them, so it’ll be good to see how they continue to progress under Postecoglou.

Johnson hasn’t been at Spurs for long and his season has been disrupted by a hamstring injury, so it’s not surprising that he’s not yet firing on all cylinders.

And though Kulusevski has been at Tottenham for longer, he’s also still just 23 years old. The £140,000-a-week () Spurs star still has much to learn.
