Ange Postecoglou stands firm on Tottenham’s attacking approach despite 4-3 collapse against Chelsea

Tottenham’s poor run in the Premier League continued as Ange Postecoglou’s tactics were undone by Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea.

Postecoglou has made it clear he won’t be changing his ways amid Tottenham’s stumbling form which sees his side sitting 11th in the Premier League.

Even after a strong start which saw them lead 2-0, Spurs once again showed that inconsistency is the main factor which lead to Chelsea’s triumph.

Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho made light work of carving open Tottenham’s midfield and this is nothing new for the Spurs faithful.

Tottenham continue to play with their trademark high-pressing football but it’s not reaping it’s rewards, with a question mark emerging over the Spurs boss.

Ange Postecoglou remains confident in high-pressing Tottenham structure

It isn’t a breaking revelation that Postecoglou is never-changing when it comes to his system at Tottenham.

This has become common knowledge once again with the Spurs boss unsure as to why he should look into the possibility of change after 18 months with the club.

Following his side’s defeat in the London derby, the Spurs boss questioned the media’s criticism of his tactics but insisted Chelsea’s advantage was ‘self-inflicted’.

Speaking to , Postecoglou said: “It was good enough to get us ahead in the game so I am not sure why we should change our approach.

“It was a game of big moments. If we score at 2-2 and go 3-2 ahead then the pressure is on them and they have to open up like we did when we conceded.

“Their penalties were poor from our behalf. We didn’t need to make those challenges and it was hard for us to claw it back.”

Jamie Carragher claims Ange Postecoglou’s set-up ‘won’t work’

Since arriving in England, Postecoglou has had his critics, with his unique style of play being the main target point.

Speaking on SkySports post-game, Jamie Carragher used an interesting analogy to express what could happen if the Spurs boss doesn’t change his ways.

Carragher: “I wake up every morning, and if the sun’s shining I put a pair of trainers, shorts and a t-shirt on – but if it’s raining, you put your coat on!

“You can’t have this idea about ‘we’re going to do this and have our way of playing football’, it won’t work!

“If it doesn’t change, he won’t be here next season.”

Spurs continued to persist with their natural high line against Chelsea despite having a comfortable 2-0 lead which ultimately lead to their downfall.

Another alarming factor which adds to this for Spurs was their possession statistics against Chelsea which doesn’t reflect Postecoglou’s beliefs.
