Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham have a 22-year-old who’s showing ‘very exciting’ potential

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has backed Spurs summer signing Brennan Johnson to become a top player at N17.

The Tottenham boss, speaking to the on Friday, says Spurs coaches have seen elements of the 22-year-old’s game that are “very, very exciting”.

Tottenham signed Johnson in the summer from fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest for a reported £47.5million.

The Wales international linked up with Spurs after making a name for himself as one of the English top flight’s most exciting youngsters.

Johnson has indeed shown glimpses of his talent at N17, although a hamstring injury did halt his momentum earlier this season.

Nevertheless, Postecoglou has no doubts about Johnson’s trajectory as he continues to develop at Hotspur Way.

“He’s joined a big football club,” Postecoglou said. “You can’t play for a big football club and hide away. It doesn’t happen.

“You look at any player who goes to a big football club, that’s where they want to be.

“They want the responsibility, they want the limelight, they want to be the person who makes that difference.

“That’s why Brennan came here. He could have very easily stayed at Nottingham Forest where he was making a great career for himself.

“But he wanted to get out of his comfort zone because he had been there for so long and he chose to come to a big club.

“Well, that’s part of being at a big club. I know he knows that. But that’s not just an overnight thing. He’ll come to embrace that.

“We’ve seen elements of his game which are very, very exciting and we’ve got to get him to do that more and believe in himself more.

“I know that will come. I have full faith that it will come. I’ve seen that in him.”

Brennan Johnson an exciting prospect for Tottenham Hotspur

Johnson has looked bright for the most part since joining Tottenham from Nottingham Forest in the latter stages of the summer transfer window.

Although he struggled against West Ham on Thursday night, most of the Spurs team didn’t fare much better, including Son Heung-min.

Aside from the finishing, Johnson did well. Once he becomes more decisive with his final ball, he’ll no doubt be a force to be reckoned with. And he will surely get there.
