Ange Postecoglou says Spurs have a ‘fantastic young player’ in their ranks

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has waxed lyrical about the “fantastic” Bryan Gil after he chose to stay put at Spurs.

The Tottenham boss, speaking to , said he’s happy to have the 22-year-old around at Spurs as he’s been working really hard in training.

Gil was linked with a move away from Tottenham for all of January, with Feyenoord reportedly making an attempt to sign him for the rest of the season.

Brighton also emerged as potential suitors for the Spaniard, but in the end, he opted not to make a move and fight for his place at Spurs instead.

Alasdair Gold asked Postecoglou what he made of Gil choosing to stay at Tottenham, and the Spurs boss replied: “It’s not an issue with me.

Bryan Gil ‘still a young player with plenty of time to develop’ at Tottenham

“Yeah, there was a bit of interest in Bryan, a bit of interest in a lot of our players, but I’ve said this before it is not my role to push people out in that kind of situation.

“I still very much regard them as our players and Bryan is a fantastic young player. He works so hard to improve every day and this first half of the year he’s had a couple of injuries.

“People shouldn’t underestimate that, especially in a set-up like ours where most of the guys who had a strong pre-season are the ones that hit the ground running.

“He missed out on that but he wants to improve, loves the environment and we love having him part of the group.

“He’s still a young player with plenty of time to develop and happy to have him around for this second half of the year.”

Bryan Gil can hopefully come good at Tottenham after difficult stint at Spurs so far

Gil has made just 10 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham so far this term, of which just two have been starts.

Admittedly, the 22-year-old missed eight games at the start of the season due to a groin problem that required surgery.

While Gil could’ve gone elsewhere, the fact he’d rather stay at Spurs and play under Postecoglou shows he has the right attitude.

Gil’s time at Tottenham has sadly not been too fruitful as of yet, but he’s such a talented player that we hope he’ll come good and make a name for himself at Spurs.
