Ange Postecoglou says he’s really excited to watch £21m Tottenham player next season

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been singing the praises of some of his players ahead of facing Wolves this weekend.

Spurs go into the game with a couple of injury worries after Postecoglou admitted both Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie will miss the clash through injury.

However, that will not detract from Tottenham going all to win and entertain their fans again. Attacking and front foot football has been a key part of the Postecoglou era so far at Spurs.

Key to that plan being implemented in certain games has been the return and subsequent performances of Rodrigo Bentancur.

Bentancur was injured at the start of the season before returning and picking up another injury problem.

However, he has been back in recent weeks as part of a five game unbeaten run for Spurs and looking ahead to next season, his manager Postecoglou has admitted he’s looking forward to seeing the Uruguayan do even more.

“No, I haven’t had to and I wouldn’t. It would be like someone trying to manage my expectations and I just don’t think that is my role. He sets very high standards and it is not just the absence. When he came back, I thought in the Villa game he was outstanding and then he gets a knock within 15 or 20 minutes and is out again,” Postecoglou when asked about managing Bentancur’s expectations.

“It’s been disruptive even with the absence he’s had, but I’ve been really happy with Rodri. Again, I guess people look at it through the prism of players should be playing all the time and influential all the time, but we’re trying to build a squad here. I’ve got no doubt that whatever Rodri does this year, and he’s already contributed, he’s creating a great foundation for us for next year. With the midfield set-up we’ve got at the moment, players we’ve got in there, it will be really exciting to see how they grow.”

A key player now and next season

In the most simple terms, Tottenham are just a better team with Rodrigo Bentancur in the midfield.

His return was timely and when he came back he instantly made the team look better from the middle of the park.

Bentancur, then, is going to be crucial both now and going into next season. Thesigning has been one of the best players brought to the club in recent windows and he can really go on and become a top PL midfielder if he stays fit.
