Ange Postecoglou says he’s a big fan of ‘outstanding’ midfielder Antonio Conte wanted to sign for Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has sung John McGinn’s praises ahead of Spurs facing Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Tottenham boss described the Villans captain as “outstanding” and one of the key players when the team gets the ball.
Spurs will hope to make it back-to-back Premier League wins when they head to Villa Park in Sunday’s 1pm kickoff.
Tottenham ran out 3-1 winners over Crystal Palace last week, turning the game around late on after going behind in the 59th minute.
Up next for Spurs is a trip to fourth-placed Villa, who sit five points above Postecoglou’s side and have won their last three in the league.

They’ll be up against McGinn, arguably one of the most underrated players in the English top flight.
The Scotland international has been thriving under Unai Emery, who has him playing a bit deeper that was previously the case.
Postecoglou, speaking to ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Villa, was eager to praise McGinn.
“To challenge and overcome a team like Villa, you really have to look at the collective because they are very well organised defensively,” said the Spurs boss.
“They have some real key players when they do get the ball. John McGinn is outstanding and all these players so you know if you just focus solely on stopping Ollie on any given day, there are so many others who can hurt you.”
John McGinn was linked with Tottenham in 2022
Interestingly, had things gone a little different, McGinn could have been at Tottenham. In 2022, reported that he was on Antonio Conte’s radar.
The report claimed that Spurs rated him highly and that he would ‘feature further in their discussions for the summer’.
Nothing came of it in the end, but you wonder how good he would’ve been for Tottenham. Now, they will need to stop him in a big battle between two Champions League chasers.
