Ange Postecoglou says £42m Tottenham player is ‘a lot more vocal’ in training

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has given his verdict on Cristian Romero in training.

Postecoglou has noted how Romero has stepped up in the absence of Tottenham forward Son Heung-min.

So, what has Ange Postecoglou said about Tottenham Hotspur central defender Cristian Romero? Let’s take a look.

Ange Postecoglou praises Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero

Well, Tottenham Hotspur is without Son Heung-min at the moment. Son was made the Spurs captain this season and took the armband from Hugo Lloris.

Son is now away on international duty. The forward is playing for South Korea at the Asian Cup.

In the absence of Son, Cristian Romero has stepped up and is now a leader in the group, according to Ange Postecoglou.

The Tottenham head coach has noted that Romero is doing what Son did in training, adding that the £42 million () Argentina international is a lot more vocal now.

Postecoglou told about Romero: “There’s definitely a void there but with all these things there’s definitely opportunities. That’s where Romero has really stepped up.

“You just feel it around the place. He knows that Sonny’s not here and he knows what Sonny does on a daily basis. Sonny gets around everyone in the building and says, ‘how you going?’ and Cristian’s doing that now.

“I can see that. In training he’s a lot more vocal than he was in the past. That’s the beauty of it. There is a void because you’re missing one of your leaders, but for me, on the outside [of the dressing room], you’re kind of waiting on, ‘is anyone going to step up here? Because we’re going to need someone to, or do I need to interject myself into it’, but he’s stepped up.

“There’s been others too, Vic in goal, he’s stepped up. There’s a really good feeling amongst the group at the moment over where they’re at.

“They understand that because of what we’ve been through. ‘OK, somebody’s missing, man down, but somebody fills that void and we keep going until they come back’. I think it’s been good for the growth of the team.”

My View: Cristian Romero has to be a leader for Tottenham

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur central defender Cristian Romero will have to be a leader for the North London club.

Romero is one of the best players for Spurs and is one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

He is 25 now and is a very experienced player. I believe that Romero needs to show that he is a leader now.

There have been occasions when Romero has made rash challenges and got himself sent off. He needs to stop doing that.

Romero has made 65 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has scored four goals, given one assist, and kept 16 clean sheets in those games.
