Ange Postecoglou says 22-year-old Tottenham player has brilliant technique

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has praised Brennan Johnson for his impressive technique and his attitude.

The Tottenham boss, speaking to , says the Spurs forward “has understood” what is required on the training ground and in matches.

Tottenham signed Johnson last summer for a reported £47.5million fee, and the 22-year-old has featured plentifully in his maiden season so far.

Johnson has made 20 competitive outings for Tottenham since his switch from fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest, with whom he started the season.

He was thrown in at the deep end earlier this season due to injuries elsewhere and struggled at times, but now he’s had the chance to step back a little, he’s developing nicely.

The £70,000-a-week forward () delivered a crucial winner for Spurs last week, slamming home a first-time finish to make it 2-1 against Brighton following a great counter.

Son Heung-min whipped a ball into the centre, and Johnson expertly changed his stride and opened his body up accordingly to connect perfectly and slam into the roof of the net.

Postecoglou praised Johnson for how he’s faring, and also expressed his delight at seeing a goal scored and created by two different wide players.

“Chris Davies has done a lot of work with the front half guys with Maso (Ryan Mason) and a lot of our work is around that, getting our wingers or our players into goalscoring positions,” said the Spurs boss.

“Again, it’s the way I’ve set my teams up for a very long time and he’s one that has understood that. It’s different from what he has done and it’s not easy.

“Trying to get that timing right and when you arrive, having a good technique and he has a great technique under pressure. He showed that last week and showed it the last couple of times.

“It becomes really difficult to stop when you get that synergy between our attacking players, so having a goal last week of winger to winger is good because they get rewarded for things we speak about and understand how important it is.

“And hopefully that keeps them looking for more growth.”

It’s great to see Johnson developing week on week, both individually as a player and also as a member of the Tottenham team.

At just 22 years of age, he has his whole career ahead of him. It’ll be exciting to see how he continues to develop at N17.
