Ange Postecoglou says 22-year-old Spurs player is developing superbly

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has praised Brennan Johnson for how he has been developing at Spurs.

The Tottenham manager, speaking to , says the 22-year-old is starting to “feel at ease with himself” in terms of Spurs’ tactics.

Tottenham signed Johnson in the summer from fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest for a reported £47.5million.

The Wales international linked up with Spurs after making a name for himself as one of the English top flight’s most exciting youngsters.

Johnson has shown glimpses of his quality at N17, although a hamstring injury did halt his momentum earlier this season, and he looks like he’s developing well.

‘He was really good last weekend’

The winger impressed against Newcastle and, on another day, could have easily had two goals and assist as the Magpies struggled to cope with his pace.

“We’re really pleased with the way Brennan’s developing,” said Postecoglou.

“We’re wary when signings come in late in the piece because they have to get up to speed with the way we train, the way we play.

“And he’s had a couple of setbacks with little niggles so he hasn’t really had a good run at it.

“But the last few weeks you can see he’s starting to more than anything feel at ease with himself in what we’re trying to do.

“Especially in that front third, you need the players to play with a bit more freedom, albeit at the same time he’s taking in a lot of information.

“I think he was really good last weekend and unlucky not to score, but his general game was really good.

“I’m sure Sonny’s helped him enormously but ask any player in the group and they’d say Sonny has been a big part of helping them settle in to what we’re doing here.”

Brennan Johnson has a bright future at Tottenham Hotspur

Johnson has looked bright since joining Tottenham from Forest in the latter stages of the summer transfer window.

Obviously there was going to be a bit of an acclimatising period as he got up to speed with Postecoglou’s requirements, and the fact he joined so late in the summer and later got injured won’t have helped either.

However, Johnson certainly seems to be on the right track and, with his whole career ahead of him, it’ll be exciting to see how he continues to develop at Tottenham.
