Ange Postecoglou said something very Jose Mourinho-esque following Tottenham’s defeat to Arsenal

Tottenham suffered a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham, for all of their possession, lacked a cutting edge in front of goal, which has been the story of their season so far.

Arsenal sat back in a low block for much of the encounter and found the winning goal from a set-piece, with Gabriel heading home from a corner.

Speaking post-match, Ange Postecoglou was visibly frustrated and said something which was really Jose Mourinho-esque.

Ange Postecoglou says he always wins trophies in his second season

Postecoglou was really downbeat in his post-match interview and admitted that he needs to address his side’s goalscoring woes.

“I don’t know if it’s frustrating,” the 59-year-old said, via .

“But we haven’t got a return for our play. That’s the nature of football. We need to fix the areas we need to fix. Otherwise all our dominance, we’re going to keep opposition teams in the game. All teams will think they’re in the game. We need to have more conviction in the front third to finish teams off.

“We could rotate the squad, give players opportunity. I prefer it that way. After the international break, the last loss puts you in a pause mode. But we have plenty of games this month.”

The Spurs boss went on to issue a Mourinho-esque comment: “I will correct myself: I don’t usually win things, I always win things in my second year. Nothing has changed.”

Ange Postecoglou could be feeling the pressure

It’s quite unlike Postecoglou to make such a comment as he’s usually very modest and only focused on speaking from a collective point of view.

So to hear him bite back like that was rather surprising and it could indicate that he’s feeling the pressure.

The former Celtic boss may be eager to make that fact known in order to dampen any talk of a possible sacking.
