Ange Postecoglou provides update on Timo Werner’s injury during Tottenham vs Coventry

Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup last night, but it came at a cost as a couple of players picked up injuries.

Ange Postecoglou got to take a look at a number of players last night, including the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.

Both Gray and Bergvall received praise from Postecoglou for their performances last night, with the Australian saying they were ‘very good’.

However, it wasn’t all positive as there were a couple of injuries to note.

Wilson Odobert was substituted in the first-half after picking up an injury, and Ange Postecoglou has since confirmed that it’s a significant one.

He also provided an update on Timo Werner, who hobbled off with an apparent injury.

Ange Postecoglou issues Timo Werner injury update after Coventry

Timo Werner has just 38 minutes of football to his name in the Premier League this season, with zero goal contributions in that time.

Ange turned to him on the left-hand side for Spurs last night, but it just didn’t go to plan. He struggled to connect with his teammates and ended up giving the ball away on many occasions.

In the 74th minute he was substituted after going down with a potential injury.

After the game, Ange Postecoglou provided an update on the German (relayed by ), stating that he’s not sure exactly what the issue is with Werner right now.

“Hard to say, Wilson looked fairly significant, so we’ll just wait and see. Timo, again not really sure if it was just fatigue but yeah, a bit unfortunate for both of those.

“Obviously, both play in a similar position as well. We’re hoping it’s something too significant.”

Timo Werner’s performance in numbers vs Coventry City

Timo Werner put in arguably one of his worst performances in a Tottenham shirt last night.

In his 74 minutes, Werner won just one of his five duels, lost possession of the ball 14 times, and failed with every cross and dribble he attempted, as well as having less touches than Fraser Forster.

With Odobert injured, there may be more opportunities coming the way of Werner but he’ll need to improve if he wants to be called upon by Ange Postecoglou.

Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski won’t be easy to push out of the side either.
