Ange Postecoglou names the two Tottenham players he thought were ‘excellent’ last night

Ange Postecoglou has named the two Tottenham Hotspur players he thought were excellent against Nottingham Forest on Friday night as his side secured a crucial clean sheet.

It should probably come as no surprise that Spurs have won their last two games now that Cristian Romero is back in the fold after serving that three-match ban.

In fact, Tottenham kept their first clean sheet in almost two months at the City Ground – which highlights what a massive boost it has been to have the Argentinian back.

But the entire backline impressed against Forest. And in particular, Ben Davies stepped up once again alongside Romero.

In fact, speaking to (broadcast on 15/12 from 19:00), Ange Postecoglou suggested that he was hugely impressed by both of his centre-backs in the victory.

“I thought for the most part we stayed pretty calm and composed. I thought the back four, Ben Davies and Romero were excellent. Vic was good when we needed him, we always had an outlet, we didn’t just camp ourselves in there,” he told Sky Sports.

Spurs starting to get going again

It has been a very tricky time of late for Tottenham. And the turning point in their season was surely the game in which they lost both Micky van de Ven and James Maddison to injury.

Van de Ven is not expected to be back for some time. And given how impressive he has been, that appeared to be a massive blow.

Romero seemed to slip back into old habits in recent times. He was sent off against Chelsea. And Romero was fortunate to not be sent off for a wild challenge against Newcastle last weekend. But it is clear what he brings to the side when he is at his best.

And Davies deserves enormous credit. Obviously, results were not ideal while him and Emerson Royal were at centre-back together. But the pair did extremely well all things considered.

And the Welshman continues to look impressive as Tottenham start to get their campaign back on track.
