Ange Postecoglou makes claim about what would’ve happened if Harry Kane stayed at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are now stepping up their pursuit of adding a new striker this summer.

It has perhaps been the biggest need for Tottenham this summer, but it has taken the Lilywhites over a month to really dive into the striker market.

Ange Postecoglou could well be pushing on Daniel Levy to make a move in the window due to Richarlison’s seemingly minimal progression in returning from injury.

The Brazilian striker suffered massively from numerous injuries last season but he has remained sidelined throughout the club’s pre-season efforts.

But it has to be remembered that last summer Spurs lost the club’s highest-ever scorer in Harry Kane after his move to Bayern Munich.

What Ange Postecoglou has just said about Harry Kane

How Spurs could have done with the England captain last season in what was still a solid first season under the Australian.

However, Spurs were clearly lacking an out and out striker with Heung-min Son forced to take on the lion’s share of responsibility in Kane’s absence.

Meanwhile, Kane lapped it up over in Germany having returned a staggering 44 goals and 12 assists across his 46 appearances for Bayern.

Kane may have fallen short in his efforts to get England their first piece of silverware since 1966, but he would still certainly be welcomed back in north London.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s final pre-season friendly in South Korea, Postecoglou has commented on the club’s need for a striker.

“At Celtic, I had Kyogo [Furuhashi], who was a sort of out and out number nine and in Japan, I’ve always had a striker,” the 58-year-old told .

“It just depends, like last year we had to be a bit creative, it’s to fair say. You know but if Harry would have stayed I definitely would have used him!”

Ange Postecoglou said Tottenham need a new striker

Considering Richarlison did enjoy a decent run of form last season, the Brazilian’s injury issues have really hindered his chances of providing his worth.

The 26-year-old has not even been able to feature in any of the matchday squad during the four pre-season friendlies.

Postecoglou resorted to playing Dejan Kulusevski as the number nine in the game against the K League XI on Wednesday which is pretty damning.

Richarlison does have interest coming from the Saudi Pro League as Postecoglou admits a new striker is the club’s biggest need.

“It’s still the area of the park we’re really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that’s a focus for us,” he said.
