Ange Postecoglou left wowed by ‘special’ Tottenham player in emphatic Everton victory
Tottenham Hotspur have got their first three points of the season on the board with an emphatic win over Everton.
The draw on Monday night against Leicester City provided an impressive performance from Tottenham but the Lilywhites simply did not take their chances.
But Ange Postecoglou will have been much more impressed with what he saw on Saturday afternoon against the Toffees.
Spurs were clinical with Heung-min Son helping himself to a brace as the north Londoners compounded the misery on Everton.
Although it was the Spurs captain who helped himself to two goals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, there was another player who really impressed the Tottenham boss.

Ange Postecoglou left impressed by Micky van de Ven’s performance
Changes were made to the side which drew on Monday night with some of those changes enforced due to injuries.
Tottenham handed out a debut to Wilson Odobert who also impressed against Everton before being replaced late on in the game.
However, it was Micky van de Ven who seriously impressed Postecoglou as he provided the assist for Son’s second of the game.
Speaking after the convincing victory over the Blues, Postecoglou said just how impressed he was by the defender.
“He’s outstanding. He’s a pretty special footballer,” the Spurs boss told the media.
“Last year when we had that back four out there we were pretty compelling, but we can’t keep putting him out there.”
Micky van de Ven’s performance vs Everton in numbers
What a signing Van de Ven has proven to be since they signed him from Wolfsburg last summer!
The centre-back has completely transformed how Spurs are able to play their football with his pace proving a really impressive trait.
Here is a rundown of Van de Ven’s performance against the struggling Toffees…
- 90 minutes
- 1 assist
- 2 interceptions
- 74 touches
- 93% pass accuracy
His long distance run from his own box to Everton’s to set up Son was typical of the threat which Van de Ven can also provide in attack.
Spurs fans will just be hoping that injury issue he seemingly suffered early in the game was nothing that will haunt them as Dominic Solanke’s has.
