Ange Postecoglou admits £14.6m Tottenham man played through illness vs Fulham

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted midfielder Pape Matar Sarr playing through illness against Fulham last night.

Postecoglou to the club’s media after another victory in the Premier League for Spurs.

Tottenham capitalised on two mistakes from Fulham at the back to return to the top of the table.

Son Heung-min and James Maddison beat Bernd Leno in a comfortable win over Marco Silva’s side.

Fulham have shown this season that they’re able to take points off teams with their backs to the wall with Arsenal dropping two points against them earlier this season.

However, Guglielmo Vicario made sure his side didn’t suffer the same fate, making good stops to deny Joao Palhinha and Raul Jimenez.

Tottenham were once again strong in the middle of the park even without the suspended Yves Bissouma.

Postecoglou also admitted Pape Matar Sarr had to play through illness against Fulham to help Tottenham earn all three points.

The youngster has been a revelation this season and has thrived since Postecoglou’s arrival.

The Australian coach has put his trust in the 21-year-old and he’s repaid him handsomely.

Postecoglou says Tottenham star Sarr played through illness vs. Fulham

Asked about the Senegalese international, : “Pape [Matar Sarr] hasn’t been well for the last 24 hours but he was really keen to start tonight.

“We knew 60 minutes would probably be his maximum, it was just fatigue in the end. Short turnaround but the medical team seem to think he’ll be fine.”

Sarr only returned to training a few days before the match and it wasn’t a surprise to see him substituted in the second half.

It was nothing to do with his performance though as Fulham struggled to maintain any sort of control in the game.

Postecoglou will hope Sarr recovers in time for Tottenham’s next match on Friday and will be thankful Fulham didn’t put up enough of a fight for him to have to keep the 21-year-old on the pitch.

Oliver Skipp came on in his place and the Whites did wrestle back some control towards the end of the match, creating decent chances for Jimenez and Harry Wilson.

But their struggles in front of goal continued and Spurs walked away with another three points.
