Andy Robertson sends message to £2m-rated player linked with Celtic and Rangers

Liverpool star Andy Robertson has applauded Lawrence Shankland on Twitter as the Dundee United star continues to produce some breathtaking form in front of goal – amid reports linking him with a move to either Celtic or Rangers.

Shankland, 24, has been given his first ever call up to the senior Scotland squad despite playing his football in the Scottish Championship. Shankland has netted 15 goals in 12 appearances for Dundee United in their bid to secure promotion.

He even scored four in one game against Inverness back in August, but his goalscoring feats come as no surprise to those tracking his progress. During his two years at Ayr before Dundee United, Shankland scored 61 goals in 73 games.

Celtic and Rangers scouts watched Shankland’s hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Morton on Saturday, a £2million bid would see Dundee United cash in. Robertson sent the striker a message on Twitter.

TBR’s view – Which is best – Dundee United, Celtic or Rangers – for Shankland?

The striker is incredible form and even though it is against Scottish Championship defences, there is almost no doubt that he would be able to find the back of the net in the top tier of Scottish football.

Now at 24, Shankland needs to move on from Dundee United. A move to England or an Old Firm side should be his next step. Celtic boast options up front, in Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo.

He would struggle to rival those players, whereas Rangers have Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos. Defoe is on loan until the end of the season and Morelos continues to be linked with a move away. Ibrox is the best place for Shankland.
