Andy Lonergan and Stephen Warnock react on Instagram to new Liverpool signing
Ben Davies has completed a somewhat surprising move to Liverpool from Preston North End on deadline day after Joel Matip was ruled out for the rest of the season – and both Andy Lonergan and Stephen Warnock have rea﷽cted.
Davies, 25, is one of two defensive signings made by Liverpool on deadline day along with Turkey international Ozan Kabak. The latter has joined the Reds on♛ a loan-to-buy deal from struggling Bundesliga si🍃de Schalke.
It is believed that Liverpool will pay just £2million for left-footed Davi🗹es, with the player having entered the final six months of his contract at Deepdale. Celtic were close to agreeing a deal, only for Liverpool to steal in.
Mat🐭ip has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an ankle injury and joins Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk on the treatment table. Davies – and Kabak – provide Liverpool with some much-needed cover.
The signings of Davies and Kabak now provide Liverpool with optio༺ns at centre-back. Nat Phillips has been excellent when used, while Jordan Henderson can now return to midfield. Fabinho has missed the last two matches.
It remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp thinks Davies or Kabak is better than Henderson ♓and Phillips. Warnock – once Liverpool’s number 28 – responded as Davies took his old shirt, while ex-Preston teammate and former Liverpool goalkeeper Lonergan also reacted.
