Andy Halliday discusses Rangers trio including ‘quiet’ Alfredo Morelos after win over Celtic

Andy Halliday has raved about Rangers stars Glen Kamara and Filip Helander following their performances against Old Firm rivals Celtic – but labelled Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos as “quiet”.

Rangers eased to a crucial 2-0 win over Celtic on Saturday afternoon at Parkhead. Steven Gerrard’s side dominated proceedings against a patched-up Celtic side that were missing Christopher Jullien, James Forrest, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie.

Connor Goldson scored twice, the first form a James Tavernier free-kick and the second after some neat build-up play involving both Kamara and Scott Arfield. Helander and Kamara have since been applauded for their performances in the media.

Halliday continued that praise, applauding Kamara’s ability to keep the ball and stating that while Helander lacks pace – he believes the Swede makes up for it positionally. However, Halliday believes Morelos was below par.

“Kamara stood out. He’s very good,” “He’s the type of player that fans might not appreciate. You seem him every day in training and he’s so comfortable on the ball. You can give him the ball anywhere, in tight areas on the pitch.

“Big Helander has been an unsung hero this season, just solid. For what he lacks in pace, his positional sense is oustanding. I don’t even think Rangers were great. Alfredo was quiet, but he was a nuisance.”

TBR’s view – How long can Rangers keep Kamara?

Prior to this season, Kamara was applauded by Rangers fans but his performances were hardly jumping off the page to those that do not follow Rangers on a regular basis. However, that is beginning to change.

Numeroius links with Premier League clubs in the summer has been followed by a string of excellent displays in Europe – against Feyenoord – and then Celtic on Saturday. The Gers must keep him until the summer.

If they receive a figure of £10million or more next summer, then it is business well done. But keeping the Finland international for as long as possible is crucial to Rangers not only stopping 10 in a row, but restoring dominance in Scotland.
