Andy Couzens comments on reported Leeds target Jean-Kevin Augustin

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on a move to sign RedBull Leipzig striker Jean-Kevin Augustin as the Frenchman continues to struggle on loan at Monaco – and ex-Leeds man Andy Couzens has reacted on Twitter.

Augustin, 22, has been on loan at French side Monaco during the first half of the season but has struggled in his home country. RB Leipzig are willing to cancel the loan, and a medical in west Yorkshire is expected to occur this week.

The France Under-21 international has clocked up more than 30 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain, scored 20 goals in 67 games for Leipzig and has played 13 times on loan at Monaco during the first half of the season.

Leeds fans are understandably getting excited that they might finally bring in some competition for Patrick Bamford, after rejected bids for Che Adams and reported interest in many other strikers. Ex-Leeds midfielder Couzens reacted on Twitter.

TBR’s view – Augustin would be a top signing for Leeds

He boasts everything Marcelo Bielsa wants from a player. Firstly, versatility. Augustin is naturally a centre-forward but the Frenchman can also play out wide, on both flanks. That gives Bielsa cover on the wings, as well as up front.

Meanwhile, the striker offers a different kind of player to Bamford. More speed, and the ability to go past a player rather than just hold the ball up means he could indeed offer more than Bamford. His CV would suggest so.
