Andy Couzens and wife of Pontus Jansson react, as defender leaves Leeds
Former Leeds United midfielder Andy Couzens and Pontus Jansson’s wife Asa Thornell have posted on Twitter after it was confirmed that defender Jansson had left Leeds to join Brentford.
Jansson, 28, after it had become apparent that Marcelo Bielsa no longer wanted him at Elland Road because of his attitude. The Aston Villa incident is said to be poignant.
It is also believed that Brentford have paid just £5.5million to land the Sweden international’s signature, despite him being crucial to Leeds over the past three seasons and clocking up 120 appearances in all competitions.
Thornell posted a statement on her husband’s behalf, urging fans to ignore the rumours and thanking them for their support. Couzens, meanwhile, asked “why Brentford”, given that Jansson has been linked with the Premier League.

Looks official now I have to say if he is that good why Brentford!! Thought he would of gone for more but now we need that replacement in!! The villa game was the main turning point for me, there was a weakness when he went against the team and the manager!!!

TBR’s view – Brentford and Jansson will challenge Leeds
Brentford finished in 11th place last season, but with the addition of Jansson and keeping some of their best talents in the likes of Neal Maupay and Said Benrahma, Brentford are likely to be right up there this season.
Under Thomas Frank, Brentford have a free-flowing attack and can score from many areas of the pitch. Solidifying their defence was crucial for the Bees this season, and Jansson will help do that.
The sale of Jansson could now hurt Leeds even more, other than losing one of their best players – and for a bargain fee. But Jansson could also now help Brentford finish above Leeds, something which they are capable of.
