Andros Townsend shares what he has ‘heard’ about Lucien Favre’s collapsed move to Crystal Palace
Andros Townsend has told TalkSPORT (Friday, 10.40AM) that he had heard a deal for Lucien Favre to join Crystal Palace was “almost done”. Townsend claims that sorting a work permit out was underway – but a deal has now collapsed. It leaves Palace back at square one in their hunt for a manager.
Townsend, 29, is one of 10 Crystal Palace players out of contract at Selhurst Park this summer. He is set to see his Palace deal end in a week. A new manager might have decided to hand the England international and ex-Tottenham star. Favre, 63, was on the verge of joining Palace.
However, claimed on Thursday evening that a move to hire Favre had fallen through. It is believed that the Frenchman wants an extended break. Townsend was asked about his club’s move for Favre and the latest he had “heard”, before the deal fell through this week.
“I heard it was almost done, it was at the work permit process. He was about to fly over and start the quarantine process. But something has clearly changed,” Townsend told the TalkSPORT studio, in the midst of ex-Palace owner Simon Jordan and presenter Jim White.

With Nuno Espirito Santo now a front runner for Tottenham and Rafa Benitez expected to join Everton, Palace need to move quickly. If those two moves go through, then surely Palace need to look at Eddie Howe or Frank Lampard. Moves to hire either Englishman makes utter sense.
While Roy Hodgson kept Palace above water and safe, Howe and Lampard offer long-term vision. It gives them a young Englishman in charge with plenty of managerial talent. For either, it would also attract plenty of players. Palace need to move quickly.
