Andros Townsend names 25-year-old Everton teammate who’s a ‘very talented’ player

Andros Townsend has described fellow new Everton signing Demarai Gray as a “very talented” player.

The Merseyside club have recruited both Townsend and Gray to their squad this summer, with the English wingers set to inject some extra pace and flair in the wide areas.

Townsend, 30, is a right-winger that is great crossing with both feet. Also, he’s got so much experience now at top-flight level.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old left-winger Gray has made a return to the Premier League for the new season after a short spell in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.

He was a part of the Leicester City squad that shocked the world to win the Premier League title back in the 2015/16 campaign. However, he’s still waiting to really play a key role as a leading talisman in a side.

Townsend has been extremely complimentary with comments about Gray:

“We’ve got some great youngsters. You’ve got Mason [Holgate], you’ve got Ben [Godfrey]. You’ve got Demarai coming in. He’s a very talented player,” Townsend .

“It’s a great blend. The best teams I’ve played under have had great youth players and had good pros. It’s a good balance.”

Demarai Gray needs to hit ground running at Everton

For Gray, he no longer wants to painted with the brush that he’s a youngster.

It feels like the 25-year-old speedster needs to start quickly to force his way into Rafael Benitez’s plans. Otherwise, he could be sat on the bench like much of his recent career.

He’s got massive talent with his pace and trickery, but needs more end product.

There is no doubt he can learn a lot from someone experienced like Townsend.
