Andries Jonker urges Arsenal to complete move for striker linked with Gunners
that Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst would be a good signing for Arsenal this summer – with the Gunners reportedly rivalling Newcastle United for the target man.
Netherlands international Weghorst, 27, has been in stunning form since he moved to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in 2018. He has scored 38 goals in 78 league and cup appearances for the Europa League side – in which he laid on 12 assists.
This season, Weghorst has netted 20 goals and created five more in 42 league and cup appearances. last week that the 6ft 5in target man was a target for both Arsenal and Newcastle, with Wolfsburg looking for a fee of £32million.
Jonker, who worked as the head of Arsenal’s development from 2014 to 2017, spoke of Weghorst’s future and Arsenal’s interest and reckons Weghorst would be a good signing for Mikel Arteta’s side.
“Weghorst at Arsenal: I can imagine it. He can help the club as a hard worker and goal scorer. I think it is a match,” .

TBR’s view – Could Weghorst be a replacement for Lacazette?
All the signs are pointing towards a new deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer, despite plenty of interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. But Lacazette could be sold, given he has been in and out of form this season.
Getting rid of Lacazette is a real possibility, and a replacement would be needed. Weghorst boasts similar attributes to Lacazette in terms of power and technique, but Weghorst is in the form of his life and is much stronger in the air.
At £32million, then, Weghorst would be a very good signing if Lacazette leaves.
