Andrea Radrizzani likes Tweet defending under-fire Leeds player
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford was the subject of mass criticism from supporters last season and that backlash from fans has continued in pre-season – something of which owner Andrea Radrizzani disagrees.
The 25-year-old joined Leeds last summer from Middlesbrough for a considerable amount of money, believed to be worth £10million with add-ons. He endured a difficult first campaign, though.
Indeed, the former Chelsea man suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury early on – forcing him onto the sidelines for the majority of the first half of the 2018-19 campaign. He managed just 25 outings in all competitions.
He did find the back of the net 10 times in those matches, but in pre-season matches against Manchester United and Western Sydney, he has missed two sitters. Some fans have hammered Bamford, while others have defended him.
One Leeds fan was frustrated to see a player getting so much flak, and Radrizzani has liked his Tweet.
TBR’s view – Bamford needs the support of Leeds fans
Firstly, a striker under fire is not going to reach the pinnacle of his game if he does not have the backing of his own fans – on social media or from the Elland Road terraces.
Secondly, it must be considered that Bamford’s goalscoring rate for Leeds last season was still particularly good. He started just 18 matches for Leeds with injury hampering his momentum, and he scored 10 times.
That’s a very strong record. Yes, he has missed a few chances, but Bamford needs support and it seems he has it from owner Radrizzani.
