Andrea Radrizzani happy with Leeds United display in Liverpool loss, laments ‘inexperience’

Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani is clearly very proud of his club’s performance in their Premier League opener, as they more than held their own against reigning champions, Liverpool.

Eventually, Jurgen Klopp’s men prevailed in a 4-3 thriller, despite Leeds fighting back to level on three occasions through Jack Harrison, Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich.

Unfortunately, defensive errors cost Leeds. Robin Koch’s handball awarded Mohamed Salah a chance to score the opener from the spot whilst the German newbie also lost his marker as Virgil van Dijk headed home Liverpool’s second. Pascal Struijk’s awkward headed clearance was lashed home by Salah for 3-2 whilst Rodrigo’s inept defending awarded the penalty from which Liverpool scored the winner after Klich’s special goal.

But it was clearly an encouraging display from Leeds, who have more than lived up to their entertainers tag in their opening game of the season.

Radrizzani was responding to a tweet from Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe from earlier in the week, in which the South African was thanking the Italian for taking Leeds back to the top-flight.

Today, after the game, Radrizzani responded, highlighting that inexperience might have been the reason for the loss.

Indeed, Leeds United fans will be proud of their team’s performance and Radrizzani is right. Should Leeds cut out some of those defensive errors then this should be a successful season for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
