Andrea Radrizzani delivers Leeds stance on European Super League

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has delivered his stance on the European Super League after six English clubs were confirmed as becoming founding members of the breakaway league – to the delight of Leeds supporters.

News of the ESL rocked the footballing world on Sunday when it was announced that 12 of Europe’s biggest clubs would be breaking away to form their own league. Backed by American giant JP Morgan, they want to form a new mid-week league.

Both UEFA and FIFA – along with different governing bodies regarding the nations of specific clubs that have signed up – have stated that the teams in the Super League will be barred from Premier League or Champions League competition.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea have all agreed to compete in the competition – six of the 12 clubs. Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are the others.

Immediate reaction of the Super League has caused mass criticism from fans, pundits and plenty more. Gary Neville has earned praise for his live hammering of the project and now, Andrea Radrizzani has had his say on Twitter.

His Tweet is translated as: “Absolutely against the sporting spirit, the dream of millions of fans to conquer the championships on the field, with planning, vision, work. Kill dreams of club players and fans. The teams are fans and WE are the keepers.”

Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to Radrizzani’s stance when it comes to Super League participation, and many are delighted that the Italian supremo is against the idea of a breakaway league.
