Andrea Radrizzani delivers four-word verdict on Leeds gem Lewis Bate

Leeds United Under-21s were beaten 5-3 by Salford City in the EFL Trophy last night. Max Dean, Sam Greenwood and Lewis Bate scored the goals for the Whites. After the game, former Chelsea midfielder Bate received praise from Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani.

In a highly entertaining game, Leeds held their own for a large part of the contest against League Two opposition. Dean’s goal actually fired Leeds into an early lead.

It wasn’t to be though for the young guns though. A brace from Brandon Thomas-Asante and goals from Ibou Touray, Aramide Oteh and Jordan Turnbull ended Leeds‘ participation in the competition.

The team did manage one win during the Papa John’s Trophy but ultimately it wasn’t enough and that’s it for another season.

Bate was an interesting signing by Leeds in the summer. He checked in from Chelsea, despite being highly rated by the coaching staff at Stamford Bridge.

The 19-year-old has been a regular in the under-23 team since checking in, helping himself to a single assist. He’s also showcased an ability to play in a number of positions.

Bate looks set for a really bright future and he’ll take a lot from last night’s appearance against an established Football League outfit.

What did Radrizzani have to say about Leeds gem Bate?

The Leeds majority owner is passionate about the football club. That doesn’t just mean the first team either and a lot of time and investment has gone into the club’s youth academy.

Thorp Arch is one of the best facilities for young footballers in the country and Leeds are the envy of several clubs when it comes to their youth structure.

After Bate’s mesmerising run and finish last night, Radrizzani chose to sum up his brilliance with a four-word tweet to praise the talented teenager.
