Arsenal and Liverpool are starting to have doubts over signing £63m striker who Andrea Berta had recommended
TBR Football understands that Matheus Cunha’s recent behaviour has seen Liverpool and Arsenal raise concerns over paying £63 million for him.
Cunha, who has a £62.5 million release clause, has just finished a four-match ban following his clash with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez in the FA Cup.
Alan Shearer recently claimed that Wolves have looked better without Cunha during his suspension, which will only bring about further doubts for Premier League clubs who were looking at the Brazilian.

Arsenal and Liverpool now have concerns over Matheus Cunha
Arsenal and Liverpool now have concerns over Matheus Cunha’s recent behaviour and are questioning whether they should be spending £63 million on him, sources have informed TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.
Following his recent arrival as sporting director, Andrea Berta told Arsenal that he was keen on Cunha, having previously been the man who brought him to Atletico Madrid in 2021.
But now, that stance appears to have changed, with eyebrows being raised at the North London club, which won’t have been helped by his recent spat with supporters on social media.
Cunha replied to an Instagram post about him by saying: “Do you know what you want? For people to not like me here, unfortunately, I’m going to the field to solve the problem of your favourite club. I’m not here looking for alternatives to be someone important. Fans root for their own, they don’t create misfortunes all the time.”
Bailey told TBR Football: “My understanding on him is that his actions this season on and off the pitch, with what happened in that game against Bournemouth, have seen Arsenal and Liverpool in particular raise red flags with what he did.
“If he does what he did in an Arsenal, Liverpool or Man United shirt, he’s going to get a longer ban and you can’t be doing that.
“When you’re dealing with someone worth over £60 million, do you want someone who has red flags attached? Premier League clubs don’t tend to do that and it could impact on him.
Nottingham Forest leading the race for Matheus Cunha
At this stage, Nottingham Forest continue to lead the race for Cunha and have not been totally put off by his recent actions.
The Premier League’s third-placed team remain keen on him as they look to add to their attack in this summer.
“Cunha’s people are still talking to plenty of clubs, though. Forest are in the driving seat as it stands and are the most keen, they are currently doing their due diligence on him,” Bailey added.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United cannot be ruled out of the race to sign the 25-year-old with his camp talking to many clubs.
