Andre Gomes and Sylvain Distin react as Everton star announces exit
Andre Gomes and Sylvain Distin have both reacted emotionally on Twitter after Phil Jagielka announced that he would be leaving Everton this summer, after 12 years at Goodison Park.
The 36-year-old leaves the Toffees having clocked up an enormous 385 appearances in all competitions, as well as captaining Everton for the last six years of his 12-year spell – since he joined the club from Sheffield United.
The 40-time England cap’s contract expires at the end of the month, and he posted a heartfelt message to supporters to confirm his exit. Former teammate Distin replied similarly in a respectful manner.
Gomes, who is a £20million-rated target for the Toffees this summer, also thanked Jagielka despite the two only spending one season together at Everton.

TBR’s view
Are Everton making the right decision in offloading Jagielka? Though he only made seven Premier League appearances this season, there was enough to show that he still boasts top-flight quality.
On a free transfer, he would be an excellent signing for any bottom-half Premier League club. Not only on the pitch, but off of it too. His guidance and experience would be invaluable.
It remains to be seen where he will end up this summer, whether he will remain in England or chance his arm in the likes of the MLS or China is yet to be decided.
