Leeds United should make 30-year-old La Liga stalwart their top piece of summer business

Leeds are on the cusp of promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 15 years and their long-suffering supporters are getting excited.

Marcelo Bielsa has revived the club’s flailing fortunes and is now within a whisker of putting the club back among England’s elite.

With promotion looking extremely likely, the club will probably already have a list of targets that they hope can make them competitive in the top flight.

that Ander Iturraspe is one of those players on Leeds’ radar. The Spaniard has fallen down the pecking order at Athletic Bilbao and looks set to be on the move.

The 30-year-old can leave the La Liga outfit on a free transfer in the summer and Leeds should be all over that. A defensive midfielder might be a necessity for the Whites, especially if speculated interest in Kalvin Phillips sees him depart Elland Road.

Iturraspe has been at the top level for the majority of his career and his arrival at Leeds would be a sensational piece of business. The midfield enforcer is on £93k-a-week at Bilbao , but the chance to work under Bielsa again might see him keen to take a drop in salary.

Bielsa knows all about the qualities he would bring to the team having worked with him previously. Leeds will need more than one signing to compete in the Premier League, but Iturraspe could prove to be the most important.
