Crouch discusses atmosphere before Everton v Liverpool
He said: “When we got the briefing through before the game from BT Sport that we’re going to go on the pitch and then walk towards the Gwladys Street end, I was thinking ‘can we not stay here by the Liverpool fans?’.
“We had to walk down there. Duncan Ferguson is someone my dad made me watch to show how you attack a ball in the air. He’s a bit of a hero to me.
“Meeting him, he’s such a good person. But then watching him walk towards that end and the reception he got was just phenomenal.
“That’s what football is about. They absolutely adore him. What a man. The reception he got was amazing to see. I was glad to be there, it was great to be a part of that.”
Ferguson clearly loves Everton and has helped the club out in a variety of roles since his playing days came to an end.
That love is reciprocated from the fans and they made their feelings clear towards him ahead of kick off on Saturday.
It will be interesting to see where he goes in his first permanent job as a manager and it is almost certain that many Evertonians will be keeping an eye on his progress and wishing him well.
