Amanda Staveley says she has been texting Newcastle legend over return to club

she has been texting Alan Shearer over a possible return to Newcastle United, in an unspecified role.

Shearer, 51, retired in 2006 after clocking up 206 goals in 405 games for Newcastle – sitting at the top of Newcastle’s record goalscorers.

Of course, he returned to the club in 2009 as manager – in a bid to save them from relegation. But just one win in eight saw the Toon go down.

Now, Newcastle have finally rid themselves of the Mike Ashley era. The Saudi-backed consortium bought the club for £300million on Thursday.

Staveley, who owns 10% with her PCP Capital Partners, gave an interview to the Telegraph – detailing her plans for Newcastle and the future of the club.

She also said that he has been speaking to Toon legend Shearer over a return to the club – but did not specify what kind of role it would be.

: “Staveley says she has been in ‘text contact’ with Shearer and that she wants to speak about whether he would like a role at the club.

‘That’s something I would have to ask Alan as to what he wants to do,’ she said, adding that it was ‘very important that we deal with all the greats.'”

Staveley winning Newcastle fans already, even more with Shearer

The scenes on Tyneside and outside of St. James’ Park on Thursday were incredible. Staveley and the consortium have brought joy to Newcastle.

It was never going to be hard for Staveley to win the hearts of Toon fans. That is because the delight could be more to do with the exit of Ashley.

But certainly, if there were some fans still skeptical about the new owners of the club – then bringing Shearer back in some sort of role would be ideal.

It would instantly win the hearts of those Toon fans, who are yet to be convinced. Brilliant from Staveley – though Shearer’s stance is unknown.
