Almiron improving, but attacking teammate is stealing the show at Newcastle

Newcastle United ace Miguel Almiron is steadily getting better for the Magpies.

The Paraguay international, signed in January for £20 million from Atlanta United (), has taken some time to get to grips with the English top-flight.

He is yet to score for the club, but has undoubtedly made Rafa Benitez’s side more of a threat in the final third with his pace and technical ability.

That said, it is Spaniard Ayoze Perez who is currently the team’s star player, which is somewhat surprising given Almiron’s lively first outing for Newcastle and the reputation he arrived with.

TBR’s view

At the moment Perez is playing some of his best football for Newcastle and could well be the first name on Benitez’s teamsheet.

He has four goals in his last two games having hit a hat-trick against Southampton on Saturday evening, taking his tally to 11 for the season. Eight of those have come since the turn of the year.

Frustratingly for Almiron he may not have much time to rival Perez as the star of the team having left the action early against the Saints after picking up a hamstring injury. he will see a specialist in Spain over the issue.

Perez, signed by Alan Pardew for just £1.5 million in 2014 (), has divided opinion amongst Newcastle fans but the forward has certainly got the majority on his side recently.

Almiron has come in and made an impact, but it is the Spaniard who has really propelled Newcastle to safety as was the case last season.
