Ally McCoist has given a glowing verdict on the quality of Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
McGregor, who is still performing on the elite stage aged 39, has played a key role in the Gers campaign so far.
The Ibrox shot-stopper has kept 20 clean sheets in 35 games across all competitions this season.
They’ve already clinched the Scottish Premiership title, while tonight they will look to get the better of Slavia Prague in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.
If Steven Gerrard’s side can reach the quarter-finals of the European competition, it will highlight how far they’ve developed as a team with him in charge.
Despite naming Rangers captain and right-back James Tavernier as his player of the year, McCoist has waxed lyrical about goalkeeper McGregor.
“I’d probably still give it to James Tavernier in terms of player of the year… but Allan McGregor has had an unbelievable season, some of his saves,” McCoist told .
“You saw his save against Slavia Prague last week, that’s one of the best saves I’ve ever seen. 100 per cent he deserves [a new contract]. He’s the best goalkeeper in the country.”

TBR’s View:
With McGregor’s contract due to expire this summer, Rangers fans are anxious to find out what his future looks like ahead of next season.
He’s likely to be crucial tonight against Slavia Prague at Ibrox, with the teams tied 1-1 on aggregate from the intriguing first leg.
The Scottish goalkeeper made a stunning individual save late on in that match, which showed he still has incredible reflexes and also the ability to play on the European stage.
