Ally McCoist reacts to reports concerning ‘amazing’ 27-year-old Newcastle player this week

Ally McCoist has issued his verdict on reports that Newcastle United are closing in on agreeing a new contract with Joelinton.

In many ways, Joelinton‘s journey has mirrored wh🅷at Newcastle have been through over the last few years. He became the club’s record signing when he signed in 2019. But it quickly became apparent that he was not the goalscorer who would take the Magpies to the next level.

It was imp🌸ossib🔴le to not write the 27-year-old off at one stage. But the arrival of Eddie Howe appeared to change everything for the Brazilian.

Unsurprisi📖ngly, the club are working to tie him down for the long-term. According to a report from this week, New✤castle are close to agreeing a new deal with Joelinton.

He wants to stay. But he is also hoping to become one of the highest-paid players in the M𝔉agꦕpies’ squad.

Speaking on (broadcast on 5/3; 06:27), Ally McCoist suggested that it is remarkable how Joelinton signing an extension on Tyneside is such 🥀a boost for Newca✨stle.

“If somebody had said to me 18 months ago that Newcastle would be missing Joelinton, I’d have locked them up immediately. But boy, they are. It’s amazing,” he said when asked abo🌌ut the reports.

“I love it. I just love it. There was a period there wh𝔉ere you were actually watching him play centre forward, and you🃏’re in agony for him.

“And then he gets drawn back in the middle of the park and it’s just a completely different entity. He💞’s been great. So I’d love to see him sign🌱 a new contract there. Fans favourite as well.”

This season is a blip rather than a backward step

It has been a more difficult ca🥃mpaign for Newcastle. They were knocked out of the Champions League – in controversial circumstances – at the group-stages. And they are only five points ꧅closer to the top-four than the relegation zone right now.

Of course, it must be hard f🧔or fans to think of where they have come from in the last few years when they are not getting the results.

But the൩ progress they have made since Howe arrived shows that Newcastle are nowhere near reaching their ceiling with most of this current squad.
