Ally McCoist and Lee Dixon marvel over one Rangers player

Ally McCoist and Lee Dixon have both raved about Rangers midfielder Steven Davis on after the midfielder clocked up his 126th appearance for Northern Ireland on Wednesday night.

Davis, 36, surpassed Peter Shilton as Britain’s most-capped player – with the England goalkeeper boasting 125. The Rangers ace failed to secure a win on the occasion, though, as Northern Ireland drew 0-0 with Bulgaria.

A frustrating result, Northern Ireland produced some excellent chances. Stuart Dallas saw a header clip off the bar, while Niall McGinn had numerous chances to win the match – only to see his efforts fizz past the post.

For Davis, though, it is a remarkable achievement and one that is unlikely to be matched for quite some time. Rangers legend McCoist, who has worked with Davis, and Dixon both applauded the ex-Southampton ace.

: “Absolutely amazing, a phenomenal player that keeps himself fit – looks after himself. He was a credit to work with,  a joy to work with. He deserves every success.”

: “It’s astonishing, I know how hard it is to keep a club career going – let alone an international one, having to meet up every single time when other players are getting a rest. To have that consistency is amazing.”

TBR’s view – How many can Davis get?

Well, the holding midfielder is certainly showing no signs of slowing down. He has just penned another one-year deal at Ibrox after another fantastic season where not only has he done well, but he is in line for Player of the Season.

His stamina is incredible. Not only has he played a huge 41 times for Rangers in all competitions this season, but Davis has also played nine times for his country. All in all, he has 753 club appearances and 126 caps.

A remarkable player, but an even more remarkable achievement.
